walaupun sudah berungkali saya mendaki gunung ini, saya tak pernah bosan untuk mengunjunginya secara rutin.sekedar untuk hobby dan menghilangkan stress.
Did a 2 days hike to conquer the twin peaks with a local guide.
Day one started by driving up from Cangar village to the start of the trailhead and made our way on foot to second camp at lembah lengkehan which took about 4 hours. The trail is mostly forest trail and we enjoyed the serenity and cool temperature throughout. Be sure to pause for the view of the smoking fumeroles of Welirang in a distant. Along the forest trail, you will stop by active mini fumeroles.
After setting up camp at lembah lengkehan, we took a slow hike towards kembar II and caught the beautiful golden sunset on our descent. Overnight camp before setting off early in the morning on day two towards Arjuno. Trail was a mix of steep upwards and downwards rocky terrain first through the forest and then you will find yourself along the ridge of the mountain. Took us about 3 hours to reach the top of Arjuno. After a quick breakfast of coffee and bread, we made our way back down to lengkehan camp to rest.
In the late afternoon, we decided to make our way up to Kembar I and then to Welirang which will take at least half a day. The trail we took to Welirang was the same route the miners used to ferry the sulfur rocks to and fro the fumeroles. It was a major feat carrying hundreds of kg of weight down and up the mountain. We did not come across any because it was already late in the day and the miners start working very early in the morning and end by mid day.
After climbing to the top of Welirang and enjoying its magnificent crater, we took a slight detour into the fumeroles and took in the breathtaking sights of the surrounding landscape. Be prepared to mask up as the air is rich in sulfur. We then made a quick descent down and reached our camp just after sunset. Day 3 was spent hiking back the same way down to our starting point which took half a day.
Overall, the hike was really good with proper trails and can be easily managed within two days with adequate rest in between. I am surprised this trek was more popular with the young locals and don't recall any foreigners apart from ourselves.
