We were to take 80 people with there old cars to this venue and had morning tea, self guided tour of the house and lunch. This a credit to Christopher and his family the work that has been done and the presentation is excellent. I encourage everyone that goes to Bathurst to go out and have a look
This Mansion built in the 1800's, owned by the Morgan Family is steeped in history. Our host Chris Morgan not only gave us complete run of their home to explore but he gave us a wonderful talk on the history of the area and their home. The house is full of memorabilia both historical and personal. Every Australian should visit... 更多
We went on a tour of Abercrombie House with Ian Redpath of Bathurst Tours. Ian is so knowledgeable. He took us into nearly every room in the house as well as did a tour of the stables etc. Ian knew just about everything there is to know about the history of this beautiful property. There are a lot of steps... 更多
The exterior of this old building is amazing, unusual and well renovated. The garden and views are wonderful. I can imagine it costs lots of money to keep it going. The interior is like a rabbit warren with creaking floors, worn carpet and a myriad of staircases. The mismatch of furniture and ornaments keeps it interesting and I can't imagine how... 更多
The building itself is quite spectacular with a rich history. However, the building and the grounds have not really been maintained very well. There were a lot of cobwebs, dust and the garden is in a bit of a state, not really worth the $15 per person admission.
Reasonably large historic houses are hugely expensive to maintain and the family whose home it is are to be greatly admired for pulling this one back from almost certain ruin and dereliction. I'm sure they will be the first to admit they still have a long way to go but this is still a little gem of a property. It... 更多
It has taken a long time for me to visit this place but now that I have I want to tell everyone that this is a 'must see' venue when visiting Bathurst. There are few homes like this that are open to the public and the history of the place and the ongoing work the family are putting into it... 更多
This was a grand old house with plenty of character. Unfortunately the family really haven't maintained the premises. I am sure there a plenty of stories to tell but really in this day and age when charging as they do, they really should be putting back into the property. Sorry, but I was sorely disappointed.
I was with a group of 40 and we were all entranced by Chris Morgan's telling of the history of the place. He spoke with great warmth and obvious love and determination to continue the task of preserving such an important part of our history. The 50 room house (castle?) is amazing and filled with extraordinary furniture, pictures, and of... 更多
