There are many swimming opportunities in the area of the Marlborough Sounds However, if you are looking for somewhere that: - is not far from the road - offers plentiful and safe parking - is secluded and relatively private - has a clean toilet (separate men & women's) - has a sandy beach - allows swimmers to swim out of... 更多
Governors Bay is a pretty settlement at the head of Lyttelton Harbour. There are beautiful seascapes and views back to Lyttelton. It's cold down by the sea in an easterly but it seems to be perennially sunny with exuberant gardens everywhere. There's a little coastal walk from Governors Bay Jetty round to Allandale - very easy, nice and flat, with... 更多
Try exploring the road down past the school to the water for some spots with fantastic views looking up Lyttelton Harbour. The cafe and pub are great for Breakfast & supper respectively.
When Ch-ch was originally planned at Teddington, Governor's Bay was to be the Governors' residence. Not a bad spot. The pub has a great view, the Chocolate cafe over the road is one of those places to sneak into for a special occasion and indulge. There are plenty of other places at the head of the bay to visit; gardens... 更多
A lovely spot on the peninsula. Has a great café and pub, a new Community Centre and the local swimming pool is now heated. A jetty and foreshore walk to explore and you can walk to the Maori Gardens from Sandy Bay.
We spent a full day driving around the environs of Christchurch. We drove through Lyttelton, Governor's Bay, Arvarka, Little River, etc, ( My notes may misspell some of those names. The scenery was awesome. It is well worth one day of your trip.
The Fiancee and I headed over for a nice relaxing picnic, we where able to drive up to the trees and site in the shade, had a very pleasant picnic and even a siesta.
Took the grandchildren here recently and parked the car by the wharf that is closed due to earthquake damage but had a fantastic walk along the track that follows the coast around the bay. Really fun walk and the kids just loved it discovering things along the way. It was a free activity that was a really nice family outing.
Our homestay was part of a small suburb a few km out of Christchurch. The surrounding hills and the Bay itself present us with some rather spectacular views to die for! We took many many photos of the Bay and the hills that surrounds.
