This is our backyard, so this review is somewhat biased! Godley Head and the remainder of Banks Peninsula is one of New Zealand's unsung gems. The rugged coastline and the views across Lyttelton Harbour are magnificent.
It is located in Sumner, at the south side of the east of CHC. We followed the GPS and drove there for about 30 min from downtown to see the beach outside of the CHC. We did not know it was abut 1000 ft high. Because it is called a PARK, so we did not know it lead us to... 更多
Godley Head is on the CH360 trail, and encompases great views, wildlife (a penguin colony at Boulder Bay), and interesting military history with WW2 Coastal Artillery positions. A long drive or walk out there, but worth it.
The photo here looks like there is a police search going on! Really though this is a stunning part of town. Great for a bike ride, walk, picnic or drive to see the long views on a clear day or the immediate.
My son regularly runs this track and competes each year in the Boulder Bay Classic (10.5km). It is a very beautiful walk along the coast and to the old WWII bunkers. A bit of history and lots of nature. Can get windy.
We walked along the cliffs from godleys head car park to Taylor's mistake beach then back through the paddocks. The track is clearly defined and mostly flat. The views were incredible and we loved the sheep along the way. One of our favourite activities in Christchurch.
Good place for PG1 to ¨PG2 paraglider. You can work on your top Landing and Soaring. Best time to go for paragliding is end of summer. But funny time to walk is November to december because there are plenty of Lamb running aournd.
A brilliant walk from Taylors mistake beach. Mostly flat terrain with a few ups and downs It follows the coastline which is both rugged and beautiful. Transport is required to get to either end of the walk either Godley head road or Taylors mistake beach by car, bus or bike in order to begin the walk. Enjoy!
