The old market precinct has been replaced by an urban village - come and walk through the historically protected buildings and experience part of the Auckland heritage - grab a coffee from one of the cafes and wander the shops in this small urban village.
After years of development the precinct is just starting to come alive with a mix of artisan workshop stores, galleries and shops left from the old market that used to be on this site.
Restaurants and food outlets make this area popular with the locals who work and live in the immediate area.
The area that now makes up Victoria Park Village was once the local rubbish collection area. The horses would lead the carts around the old City Centre collecting the rubbish - the rubbish was then delivered to Victoria Park Village, burnt in the old chimney and the power generated from this would power the city street lights. On site you can still see the chimney, sorting area and the old stables. a ramp that was previously used to get the horses up to the second floor of the stables is now the Celebrity Walk where a number of icon Kiwis have left their hand and foot prints. The horses have long since "bolted" from the stables and in their place a thriving community of artisans are setting up in eateries, workshops, shops and galleries.
