As we were staying in Pickering for the weekend we took the opportunity of visiting the castle. It's mostly a ruin, but using your imagination and inspired by the atmosphere of the place, you can build a picture of what life must have been like living in a castle in days of yore. There's steps to climb for good views... 更多
Although this only small I still found it quite interesting. The guide book was 2.99 which I bought to go along with the visit. I feel that if you didn't have the guide book you may find the visit boring as there wasn't mush else to explain various parts of the ruin or its history. The castle itself is dog... 更多
A lovely way to pass 30 minutes or so but not a huge amount to see and of course, there is an entrance fee. Yes, historically it is paramount to maintain the remains of this most English of monuments and the entrance fee goes towards that but there is more to see in the shop than around the site although... 更多
Was nice to say we have been, I do think it was a little over priced for what is actually there. It's only small and unfortunately there isn't much information about the builder around the area, to find out information about the building you have to buy a booklet about it. There is a lovely short walk around the castle... 更多
I love walking around old castles. This one is just a ruin but using the guide we spent 2 hours here walking the grounds and checking out the battlements and forts and chapel etc. Well worth a visit. Take a picnic. The main high street of Pickering is only a 10-15 minute walk away
The castle is Norman and very little remains but there are interesting boards to inform you. Sadly there is no audio tour available unlike at some bigger castles. I would love there to be one here too. The shop staff are friendly and the site clean and family friendly. Dogs are allowed but it's a small site however outside the... 更多
Our young grandchildren enjoyed looking at the castle ruins and playing on the grass around it. The views were amazing. The car park is quite small and there is a toilet there. The lady in the shop was friendly and the ticket prices reasonable but Gift Aid was added without our knowledge so be aware of this if you don't... 更多
There is much more to see inside the castle than one might imagine from seeing the ruined walls. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours here. The lady in the shop who sells the tickets is great - really friendly and knowledgable.
