We are always being told that local councils are cutting back on their responsibilities to their parks and gardens. That certainly isn't the case with The Leas on the front at Folkestone. If its a nice day then this is a wonderful walk incorporating sea views and points of interest including two historic nineteenth century hotels (The Grand and the New Metropole) and Baden-Powells house in Folkestone as well as a Martello Tower with an art installation. We walked along the promenade to the town centre, which is a gentle sloping walk. Along the way there are speakers under some benches with some information and recordings of letters from soldiers from the first/second wars.
The Leas Promenade on top of the coastal park is a wonderful place for walk, a gentle jog, a leisurely bike ride or a simple picnic on the grass. You have lovely walks along the Leas either from the top of the cliff or make your way down the windy steep pathway to the shore line with many attractions on the way.. You can barbecue, and their is slides etc for the children.
Beautifully maintained and presented, the Leas Promenade is a fairly flat & very pleasant walk with stunning views across the channel. I especially like listening to the recorded Great War letters that are played through speakers under some of the park benches.
