“Misleading Pricing and Extremely Poor Service - Avoid This Place!”
Today I visited the souvenir shop inside the tourist center and had one of the most frustrating experiences during my trip to Norway. The postcards were clearly labeled as 10 NOK each, so I picked up several to bring home as souvenirs. However, when I went to the counter to pay, the cashier charged me 20 NOK per card.
When I pointed out that the price tag showed 10 NOK, the staff responded rudely, insisting that the price had always been 20 NOK. Our tour guide (who is Norwegian) also stepped in to clarify, but the employee refused to acknowledge the mistake. To our disbelief, they even changed the price tag from 10 to 20 NOK right after our complaint! Fortunately, I had taken a photo earlier showing the original price of 10 NOK.
This kind of bait-and-switch tactic is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the integrity of the business. We were so disappointed that we decided not to purchase a high-value rug we had been considering. Such dishonest practices make it impossible to trust anything in this store.
Additionally, the service here is by far the worst I’ve encountered in Norway. During dinner, the staff did not clear the plates properly and even gestured rudely for customers to hand over their dishes instead of serving politely. It felt disrespectful and unprofessional.
I strongly advise other travelers to avoid making purchases here. There are plenty of honest and friendly shops in Norway—this one is not among them.
