This attraction is easy to miss, look for the red sign 'Dverghamrar' on the left as you are driving from Vik. Just a short walk from the carpark is the Dwarf Rocks, peculiar formations of basalt columns. Similar to the formations that can be seen at Reyinisfjara beach. Worth a look if only to stretch the legs before continuing on...
Extremely good stop if you're anything nearby or just driving along the road. Simple trail and very interesting information on how the rocks were actually formed. We actually stopped and had our lunch there since we packed them ourselves.
This marked the furthest east of our Iceland Adventure, exploring this amazing country, on Day Four. We stopped here in beautiful and brilliant sunshine, having enjoyed the sight of the waterfall nearby just a short time before. We explored the basalt column geology and marvelled at the power of nature. We also did the responsible thing and removed some litter...
It's nothing spectacular but it's still pretty and a good reason to take quick break.
It's hard to spot from the road, especially if you come from the east which is also why there's almost no other tourists.
You can make some really good photos of it because of that particular reason though, so it's totally worth a visit.
This was a beautiful place with a fun backstory. We were the only people there which made it very peaceful. Spent about 10-15 minutes wandering around. Also there's a waterfall across the street that you can see from this spot.
