Learn the history of the sardine industry of Portimao by viewing a video and going through the exhibit, along with the town's history and how it has recently endeavored to protect and promote the area's sealife. I just wish there were English translations for the exhibits.
On one of our trips to Portimão, we decided to take an hour out to visit this delightful little museum dedicated to the sardine tinning factories and the people who used to work in them. There is more to see than just the factory side though, as there are artefacts from early settlers as well as telling how they are... 更多
Again given the reviews I was expecting much more. The sardine side of things is very interesting especially the machinery but don't touch it! We did and we're pounced on by a very upset assistant. We asked where the signage was saying 'Don't touch' and we're informed it was outside the exhibition? Where? Outside! We looked and could not see... 更多
Love going to this Museum, Portimao culture is fascinating and their people are amazing. They keep everything clean and well organised. It's also good value for money.
We visited last week when we were dealt a spot of wet weather! A very interesting museum showing the sardine industry from years ago. The archive film was very fascinating & well worth watching. The exhibits were well laid out and although not many had English explanations don't forget you are in Portugal! There was also an exhibition of the... 更多
We went there because we were interested in the Sardine industry that was very prevalent in the early 1900's in Portimao. There were other displays as well and although the Sardine dispaly was good it needed alot more English translations, the film that was on display did have sub titles. So we did not see anything else in the museum
Great and interesting museum on the front. Exellant history of the sardine canning industry which was a social comment of its time . You can get a double ticket to include the Neolithic tombs some 10k away. Could with a little more in other languages not much in English and this seemed to be reflected in the visitors book cheap... 更多
We ran into here one rainy day whilst we had family visiting us. We had never been before and were pleasantly surprised to find this little gem. It was a wonderful informative museum showing Portimao in days of old and the sardine fishing etc. Great little place to visit.
Very well organized, visual displays. The modern museum is part of on old fish canning factory. The amount of information was easily digestible. We were at a disadvantage as not all information has English translation, however, the very interesting old documentary film is in English. Good displays of the construction of Alcalara's stone monuments. Time well spent.
