totaly different then the koren markt but also a must been en see location in Ghent to visit here you can park you car under the kouter and take a walking tour through the veldstraat the shopping street.
The square is elegant and you clearly notice that this must be the most upscale part of the city. Not much to see or do but as the city center is not that big, it is surely worth passing by it.
This place is specially nice to visit on sunday morning because then you have a flower market and on the kiosk mostly an orchestre is playing music. On this place there are no much shops but mostly old great buldings (like banks). For shopping you have the Veldstraat at 100 metres.
This is such a lovely area of a beautiful city. The Sunday morning flower market was beautiful with an amazing quality of plants. There is even something for visitors with bulbs on sale that can be transported. The bandstand is pressed into Sunday use and drew quite a crowd.
This place remains nice. In the past all banks were centralised with their local HQ. Now the buildings are transferred into lofts. But you still can enjoy the flowermarket on sunday morning and having your glas of champagne on the small champagne bar.
We spent a delightful two hours at the Flower Market. Spectacular offerings, great people watching ...many with well behaved dogs and an orchestra that has played since the 1800's. I suspect the musicians have changed over the years. Anyway, we have been to many Flower Markets and this is Numero Uno!
There's no reason to go to this square unless you go on Sunday mornings for the flower market and then it's a beautiful! There's so much to see and smell!
The Kouter is a nice square surrounded with historical buildings. Every sunday morning there is a big flowermarket going on here. Theres also a kiosk where they play music on certain days. Few restaurants and cafés where you can have a drink around the square.
Or, site of the Oyster eating and Cava drinking, depending on your outlook. The flowers were fantastic, I did not take part in the Oyster eating or Cava drinking, but those that were seemed to enjoying themselves.
a large square with a bandstand a flower and plant market every Sunday morning A Couple of cafes / restaurants around the square and a supermarket some very nice buildings around the square too some of historical importance. lovely square for a stroll around.
