This borg looks very attractive from both the outside and the inside. While some other borgen look more like luxury farms than castles, this one still shows that it once had a defensive function. The rooms are all in a style showing how it might have looked a few centuries ago, with nice old furniture and paintings. There is an... 更多
Compared to many other period castles or mansions, this one happens to be very well furnished with period equipment: children's toys, musical instruments including an organ, kitchenware, but few books except some Bibles. The wood carvings over the chimneys are remarkable. The paintings of the previous occupants are of second or third order, but are still part of the decorum.... 更多
This is the best audio tour we had for years - Museum pedagogy at its best. It used carefully selected text and actors to introduce the Mansion in a very vivid way, e.g. incoporating French words here and there. We visited here recently on a dull day and unfortunately it rained for much of the time we were walking in the beautiful gardens. On a better day we would have spent much longer outside. The mansion itself is in good condition with each room well marked and displayed. Like many places in Holland unfortunately they don't accept credit cards.

The Menkemaborg (the stately home of the Menkema family) in Uithuizen is such a heritage mansion. Arriving in Uithuizen at the Menkemaborg, a parking... 更多
We enjoyed our visit here and it's worth a 20 minute stop if you're in the area. The castle is well-preserved (you can only tour the ground floor) and has some beautiful period furniture on display. We had lunch in the onsite restaurant located in the former stables and it was fantastic - a very kind server and the food... 更多
