This is little know by foreigners. It is a little bit hard to get to unless you know Zurich. It can be a place of peace an quiete but it depends on what end you are on.
It can be a very busy place in summer with boats passing by and people eating lunch, mainly those in the know.
This branch of Sihl runs out in modestly from the Lake of Zurich. It is a relatively narrow little river but adds a sense of diversity and richness to the town. It is a a well-drained branch and nicely kept-up.
I stayed at Baur au Lac and I realised that a lovely canal is just outside the hotel. I took the opportunity to stroll along this canal in the afternoon. Boats berthed by the bank, some ducks and trees made up the scenery along the canal.
This is a really nice walkway. You can take it at Burkliplatz and under the road and it is generally very quiet. It would seem that not many people either know it or take it.
It ends near the new Swiss Stock Exchange. There are many boats anchored alomng the way, ducks and swans and towards te end there is...
Quiet and peaceful which is not surprising because Zurich is no New Yourk City or Hong Kong.
But it is an especially good place to have a walk, relax and sort out your mind.
Water birds are not afraid of strollers - just see the pictures.
I have found Schanzengraben Canal by accident just walking and getting lost lookuinf for a place to eat my home-made sandwich and am very glad I ended up here as it was a very relaxing and yet close to the center spot. Must be even nicer in warmer months (been there a few weeks ago in December)
...to stroll thru the Schanzengraben ... even if you rush from one to the next appointment, taking a de-tour of a couple of minutes and enjoying the special atmosphere of this small little canal is always worthwhile !
