This was on our itinerary of things to see as we visited Verona but was intended to be something we passed while making our way elsewhere. As we approached from the back of it we weren't very impressed but as you walk through and see the front, you can't help but feel amazed at the architecture of such an ancient... 更多
Porta dei Borsari originally Porta Iovia was the site of the main entrance to the Roman city. Nothing of the original 1st Century BC building remains and what we see now is the central white stone external façade that was a later addition. The interior façade no longer exists. The name relates to connections with a Jupiter temple; Borsari relates... 更多

Arenayı merkez sayarsak şehrin doğu kısmında kalıyor. Çok güçlü görüntüsü var. Şehrin merkezinde sayılır. If you consider Arenus as the center, it is staying in the eastern part of the city. There is a very strong image. It's in the city center.
The gate can be attributed to the 1st century a.c. but it seems to have been erected on the ruins of a previous gate of the 1st century b.c.. Right by our hotel this old entry to the town is one you will not miss, the buses stop just outside. There is a very nice bar just outside and worth a drink at.
This is real roman history you can touch and all the more beautiful for being time worn yet still sturdy and finctional and used by thousands of people every day. The outside is more decorative than the inside and quite a revalation if you approach from the inside as we did the first time. This is a must see sight... 更多
Incredible to believe that this can still be standing and part of this beautiful city. Walked through from both directions, always a major attraction to many tourists but a must see. The oldest entrance to the city!
this ancient roman gate was inspirational to me. The fact that it stands still the faded beauty of the archway, the comfortable way it fits into the street scape, makes for yet another poignant piece of historical architecture in Verona.
