Compared to the other, magnificent churches in Padova, the Duomo is much more modern and average. Free to enter. I didn't go into the next-door Battistero as I think it was closed (Bank Holiday): it costs €3 to enter and is apparently covered in beautiful frescoes.
Loved our visit here and to the Baptistry next door. Plainer than St Antony's Basilica but beautiful nevertheless. Loved the modern crucifix, lectern and other works by the same sculptor. The stained glass windows in the crypt were with a look. Very peaceful!
Austere compared to St Anthony, but still deserves a quick visit to see the church and Baptistery. Most of what you see now is from the mid-16th century. It has symmetrical aisles and domes, and an interesting floor. It is the resting place of several saints and the principal place of Catholic worship in Padua.
We thought this to be the largest cathedral in yown. It is huge, breathtaking! Inside, on each side there's anothe wandet to admire, another amazing sculpture. The saints seem to be there and watch over you, so you just remain silent... The organ is also one of the largest I've seen. Definitely worth to visit!
Obviously not San Antonio, but there is a stately elegance to the Duomo. It's interesting how they have updated and added modern art to the church - a sign that the Church is still alive. Stop by to see if you like what they did. The Baptistry has a separate entry.
Plain, relatively unadorned, yet elegant. We arrived during an organ rehearsal. The organist was exceptionally good; the music was more secular than sacred. The acoustics were perfect. No doubt the organ recital (almost an hour) significantly enhanced our impression of the church. There are several good venues for music in town. Seek them out. Note: this review is of the... 更多
While strolling around the historic centre of Padova, if you are an art lover, you really should include a visit to the Cathedral and its Baptistry, with 14th Century frescoes by Giusto de Menabuoi adorning the entire interior. As with many historic buildings or galleries, there is a small fee to pay but well worth it. The Cattedrale is by... 更多
Entrance to the cathedral is free. It is an imposing, large interior with largely whitewashed walls. The modern crucifix by G Vangi may not be to everybody's taste. I found the crypt more moving with its beautiful stain glass windows. We nearly gave the adjoining baptistry a miss, since the entry was €3, but were very glad we decided to... 更多
