Although not the most interesting cathedral we've ever visited, we thought it was worth an hour to have a look around. We enjoyed learning about the 1941 fire and the history of the building. Great cathedral. Only one euro entrance fee . Although of you go to mass them it costs nothing right in centre of city opposite ferry port.
Worth a visit in Santander, Be sure and not miss the basilica on the lower part, very interesting. small charge to visit everything. Doesn't take much time, small amount of attractions compared to other cathedrals in Spain.
This cathedral actually closes for lunch - and a long lunch at that. 1.00pm to 4.30pm!! We arrived at about five minutes to 1.00pm to find the cathedral staff actually pushing people out of the building so that they could go to lunch. Appalling!
It's the basilica below the cathedral which is most interesting. Unfortunately there was nothing written in English and our Spanish is best described as laughable so we didn't get the most out of our visit.
A truly wonderful and beautiful Cathedral. Amazing inside and if only the walls could tell a story. \the fire in the early 40s was a disaster for the city and it is mainly the walls that survived but the old and the new inside I think go well together. The cloister's are well keeped and the stained glass is beautiful.
Not much remains of old Santander after the great fire of 1941. The cathedral, however, is one of the few buildings to have survived. Beautiful cloisters lead to the Cathedral itself. The church is beautiful too and surprisingly modern in its statuary, stained glass windows and paintings. I did not manage to visit the more ancient lower church unfortunately. Well... 更多
