We skipped the museum and went straight to the Globushaus to see the Gottorfer Globus. It's about a 10 minute walk north of the castle and separate entry fee (7€ adult including audio tour). Even though the globe is a replica of the original, it is one of the most spectacular pieces of art I've seen - lots of intricate... 更多
My wife and I visited Schloss Gottorf as a day trip from Hamburg by train - it can be done, but you spend a lot of time on trains! We got to the Schloss around 12 PM. There's a vast amount to see and do: we visited all of the historical areas, the Saxon ship and the Gottorf globe but... 更多
This museum is excellent. It has a real viking ship in the side building and various items from big preserved people to armor to ceramics to African Art to Asian items. The building itself looks Ok from the outside but nothing special but the contents are amazing
I visit a lot of museums and heritage sites - I'm guilty of taking busmans holidays - love my job, love to visit even when not working on projects. But this museum? I can say truthfully, possibly the best museum I have ever visited. Nothing prepares you for the scope and scale of the displays - and the imaginative presentation.... 更多
Note that this is the same as the Schleswig-Holstein State Museum (#4 things to do). Two sides to the main museum; one archeological and the other on the history of the castle & rulers. There is an English audio guide that covers both though more thoroughly on the history side. It's disappointing because there is so much on the archeology... 更多
So we came at the museum with an only goal : the Nydam boat and the exhibition about the subsequent founds. And it was a big disappointment, because we could only guess what was written as an explanation : around the boat you can get information in german and danish, in the two other rooms, it's german only. No leaflet... 更多
Excuisite collection of antiquities. Especially the Nydam ship (315 a.c.) is worth the visit. Well described and explained with many recent findings and insights.
If you are in Schlesswig, you can go and see this castle, which is rather nice, there are some of Lucas Cranach paintings also. You can take a walk in the gardens also.
We visited Gottorf just to experience the Globus. It is a unique thing to do. It is a globe that was built in the 16th century to demonstrate astronomy and was well ahead of its times. Unfortunately Peter the Great of Russia appropriated it as booty and took it to St Petersburg and not many years later it was burnt... 更多
