Great place to take a day trip if you are looking to get out of the city and see some green. S-bahn drops you off about 15 minute walk from the "beach" areas which are really grassy knolls leading up to the lake. Bring a picnic and some friends.
A nice relaxing stroll around the edge of a lake is always a nice tonic. The Schlachtensee wasn't as spectacular as I'd hoped (maybe spoiled previously by living on the Starnberger See) but it made for a perfectly pleasant excursion.
The title sumd it up. Not spectacular, too crowded, but still... a lake in the forest next to a large city comes with its pros and cons. Horrible service at the restaurant at the northern tip of the lake, though.
