If you park near to the Chateau, no parking charges are levied. But if want to view Rocamadour from the chateau a charge of €2 is demanded. From this car park you can access the Cite Religieuse via a lift. Luckily the second lift was out of action to reach the main shopping area, so we were limited to the... 更多
Wanted to start the visit with the view of Rocamadour dramatic setting, we parked the car at the topmost parking area by the chateau. The parking was free. There are elevators to go down to the village, but we wanted to dedicate this trip to sightsee the religious sites-- we took the walking path dotted with the 12 stations of... 更多
This was a pilgrimage site in the middle ages, and perhaps it still is still. There are a lot of chapels and great views. There are stations of the cross along the hike up. The buildings are very old and perhaps takes on more significance if you are Catholic.
You can easily walk around for half a day. Start a the top at a church and stroll along the path going down. You'll find caves, religious places and almost down the the mountain a lot of shops and restaurants. There's a good atmosphere and good mix of sightseeing, walking and relaxing.
Well worth visit this site if you are in the area - taking the elavotor for just a few euro to,ten site , seems to be 4 or 5 churches beside each other , very interesting
I had wanted to visit here for a while. The location is fantastic. We opted not to crawl - or even walk - up the grand staircase. It is quite a walk up to the top but definitely worth the effort. The views are amazing! Beautiful architecture and loads of photo opportunities. Walking around in the little town and through the gardens is quite an experience and very calming. I understand why the pilgrims chose this place. A must see!
I never tire of this place. The walk past the Stations of the Cross is pleasant and inspiring and the actual shrine is beautifully and devoutly maintained.
Rocamadour is a wonderful day-trip destination in the Dordogne Valley. We parked at the top of the cliff and walked down past the stations of the cross. There are many breezy terraces and to enjoy the lovely setting and have a meal or snack.
