A classic mid gothic church, grand enough to be a cathedral if it had a bishop. Stately flying buttresses, soaring bell tower, melodious bell, and impressive stained glass. Worth a trip and a look.
Significant landmark for Bergerac and very easy to find. Unfortunately, the church was closed when we were there and so we cannot comment on the inside. We spent just a few hours in Bergerac but were pleased when we ran across Eglise Notre-Dame. In truth, the church has an unremarkable interior. What we found most interesting is that the church is along one of the many pilgrimage routes of Saint Jacques.
Well worth a walk around and look and read the history of the church and the area. If you go into the church about 4pm the organ player is practicing fantastic ( it was for me). A stunning and beautiful church, the architecture and amazing stain glass windows were only surpassed by the amazing bell tower. Did a tour of the town before we ended up there, lots to see and lots of artisan products and cafes and restaurants. And of course the town made famous by Cyrano de Bergerac hosts a couple of nice statues.... 更多
This church is alright as a church but if you go there for a concert, as we did recently, you will be disappointed. Without proper sound equipment you will have real difficulties in appreciating the music or as in this case The Glory Gospel Singers from U.S.A.
