The walk is what you make it. Nice enough at times, though the canal has not been kept very clean going East through the town. You can easily join the Thames path at the East end. It will take your through central Reading. I found the Western half of the town Canal more pleasant (not overly clean again though).
We walked the length of the canal from Bristol in easy stages. A real nice walk we saw plenty of wildlife on our way. If you enjoy a good walk but have never walked a long distance path this is an easy one to start with.
The beautiful canal flows through the centre of Reading and makes the town a much more pleasant place. It's a haven for wild life and it is cleaned regularly too, It's lovely to walk along the canal and enjoy seeing the boats.
