Isel Hall is a grade 1 listed property situated some 3 miles north east of Cockermouth. Access is free for Historic House members by way of guided tours on Mondays afternoons only; which means I can't give it 5 stars.

Lovely old house with Pele tower many feet thick, designed to keep out the marauding Border Rievers. The whole family and all their cattle and horses were herded into them for protection. Many interesting things to see, porcelain, paintings, craft items.
