Especially on a fine clear day the view over Portsmouth and to the north Buster Hill is fantastic. Parking is free with good vantage points - make sure you have binoculars. Also being close up to the forts along the way and a couple of eateries.
The view up here is just lovely at night with all the lights twinkling. Very magical. Go up and park with someone and take a flask of hot chocolate and some snacks. Just sit for a while and admire the view!
I really like the views when you drive along in the car and most stunning when you park in the car and take the views from the hill in the fresh air.

Worth visiting just for the views which are amazing. On a clear day you can see across the aisle of Wight and north across Hampshire. Plenty of places to park but only a couple of places for refreshments, none of which are particularly pleasant.
Free parking at Portsdown Hill which provides incredible panoramic view across Portsmouth below. The Naval Base is nearby, part of it distinguished by being built to look like a battleship.
Portsdown Hill offers something for everyone. It is ideal for dog-walking or just walking for pleasure.
