Popped in while passing to see the Janus figure. It consists of a man on one side and a woman on another. Considering how old the figure is, its remarkably well preserved. Also interesting to see that although the cemetry is hundreds (thousands?) of years...更多

The little graveyard is most famous for the Janus figure stone- which, like the god Janus,has two faces, one looking forward and one back, though both sides aren't faces, if that makes sense It's considered to be a fertility symbol.(See picture below) The nearby Lusty...更多

So little is known about these enigmatic figures. I have wanted to see them for years. Unprotected, down a side road, on the edge of a working farm, a simple sign, a small ancient graveyard .....if only stones could talk........they felt like a link to...更多

We were staying at Lusty Beg island and decided to visit Caldragh cemetery on our leaving just to see the Janus figure and the Lusty man which feature so prominently in literature of the area. I don't know why but we were expecting something huge...更多

cemetery over a thousand years old. Known for the so-called statue of Janus - actually a figure with two faces called Janus as Roman deity.. I do not know to whom that offerings go, but just in case I dropped few coins also.
