The dzong was completely destroyed by a fire in 2012. Obviously reconstruction is under way, but in April 2017 only a small part of it looked completed. We did not ask whether it is open to tourists.

This is one of the main attractions to visit in Bhutan. A very nice location and quiet place. Worth a visit.

Wangdue Phodrang Dzong is considered one of the oldest Dzong built by Zhabdrung Rinpoche but unfortunately it caught fire in 2012. Currently, the reconstruction is going on and visitors are not allowed to visit the place.
