Like many places in Indonesia there is no doubt this place suffered due to covid. However things are in full swing to bring it back to its former glory. A new windmill feature to accompany the Trojan horse, is almost complete, many of worn boards have been replaced, and the pool was clean and a delight to visit. We stayed all afternoon and ate well in the fish resto and enjoyed the boardwalk night lighting. We saw a few different bits of wildlife walking through the mangrove board walk, lizard, eel and birds. There is accommodation on site, not sure if this is open yet, you would need to enquire. It cost 30k to get in during the week, and 60k at the weekend. For us it was well worth the money just for the peace and tranquillity of the place.
Basically an abandoned resort that has seen better days, with appalling customer service. There was trash everywhere, the swimming pool was dirty with broken tiles in it, our room had cockroaches, and they told us they did not provide hand soap and refused to give us more than one pillow per person.
Since the “resort” is on a wetland, the only way to get around is walking on an elevated wooden pier that is falling apart. Lots of the slats are no longer nailed down and are so thinned that they crack and move as you’re walking.
Additionally, there were 4 or 5 loud speakers surrounding the resort that all blasted prayers, with each seeming to compete with the other for who could be more loud. They do this 5 times a day, including at 3am for about 45 minutes. We have no problem with the prayers, but this would have been good to know before we decided to stay, as it made relaxing and sleeping quite difficult.
Due to a spinal injury I need to sleep with two pillows - but because the manager refused to give me another one, when the prayers weren’t waking me up I was waking up due to my neck and arms going numb. We checked out two days early because of all the issues, and not only did the manager, Debby Mangitung, tell her staff not to issue any refund - she completely ignored our texts and calls.
We were extremely disappointed with the stay, the price we paid, and the manager’s total disregard for our comfort during the stay. This is not the way to run a business or to treat your guests.
