Book a private boat tour and skip the soulless "fishing village" tourist trap of Girolata. It's become a short term parking place for sailing boats and tourist vessels. Not authentic at all, beach uninviting and garbage strewn all about.

the boat trip was beautiful ... the drive from Calvi was not for the feint hearted (or car sick children!), we would recommend the trip from Calvi - it is a bigger boat, so the accessibility is probably compromised. If you want to drive to Porto, I would go on one of the rib tours.
We were only in the Golf of Porto, but it is truly beautiful. Coming from Ajaccio, we drove first through the Calanche cliffs, with their magnificent red peaks making it actually quite hard to reach Porto. Once you pass the Calanche cliffs, you find yourself overlooking the Golf (the view is simply breathtaking). You can and should stay in Porto...
