No other nation has sacrificed more than America for the rest of the world. We have been a country that has met the threat of tyranny head on. Malmedy's Massacre shows us that 84 GI's were executed by SS Lt. Col. Peipers troops because having POW's would have slowed them down. RIP Troopers.
As mentioned in reviews, it is actually in Baugnez, with the memorial at the crossroads with an American flag and flower garden in the shape of a star. The massacre site is across the road and down a little where a field meets a forest edge. At the time of this review there was a building across the road on... 更多
Moving but very simple monument to the massacre of US soldier by the SS during the Battle of the Bulge. Very easy to drive past and not even notice it, as we did twice! It looks like a bus stop unfortunately and should be better designed and implemented. It doesn't help that it is not located in Malmedy but is... 更多
If you are familiar with the history of the second world war you will have heard of the Malmedy massacre. A fitting memorial has been built on the site of the atrocity. Worth a visit, and there's a good war museum very close too.
Tried to find this many times as it shown in the wrong location on TripAdvisor (I'll try and change it). Visit here after going to the Baugnez 44 Historical centre just up the road to know what it's all about.
Parking is available at the museum just to the west of the memorial. The names of the soldiers who lost their lives are listed on the low wall.
A small memorial for the murder on 80 american soldiers during the december month of 1944. Combine the visit to the memorial with a visit to the very good 'Baugnez 44 Historical center' 100 meters down the road. PAY ATTENTION: the sign on the Tripadvisor map will bring you to a residential area in Malmedy. the correct adress is: Route... 更多
It is great to see that the victims of this massacre are still remembered. While we were there the garden was being cared for and the memorial is well taken care of. If you are visiting the museum over the road please take the time to visit this memorial.
I visited the Malmedy Massacre Memorial as part of a day long tour to Battle of the Bulge sites around St. Vith and Bastogne and I have to say it was the most touching of the sites I visited. The faded and aging mementos left in the memorial's small, open air chapel were very moving. Prior to traveling to Belgium,... 更多
This is of most interest to those deep into the history of WWII. It's the location where the German SS lined up and shot about 150 American soldiers. About half survived.
