We had lunch at this little restaurant in Montalcino. We tried both the Tuscan spaghetti. Was pretty good. We also had a nice Brunello wine with it. Food had a good quality. Couperto with 4€ each a little bit high. Would recommend it.
This is a small, family-run place, with a small menu (which I prefer; I find that places with longer menus are usually only average in their food). The items are all local, and traditionally Tuscan, and all very well done. The pasta dishes are all homemade, right there, and are uniformly good. Food was reasonable. My guancia di manzo was tasty but it's a common dish, easily made. My companion's spaghetti was similarly 'OK'. However, the restaurant was let down by the poor, dismissive service and an extensive wine list that nobody would give the time to explain or discuss even for 30 seconds.
We stayed in Montalcino 5 nights and loved Grappolo Blu so much we at there twice. The food is made traditionally with fresh, local ingredients. The farro salad was outstanding, as was the ravioli, the cold tomato soup and the beef. The star was the pinci with ragu-could eat it every day. Our last meal in Montalcino after a 10 day holiday. And it was one to remember. Our second visit (we had been last year also) and every bit as good as our first - perhaps even better.
