There is a lot better Mexican food in many other Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. We had carne asada which came out cold and unflavorful. The rice was tasteless and the refried beans were blah. One Margarita and one ice tea. $50 tab. Bye-bye. No mas.
We came here at the suggestion of family. They have four young, boisterous kids and appreciate the restaurant's large, noisy series of outdoor patios where the children are well-tolerated. We've been visiting La Fogata for over thirty years (through old owners and new) and they never disappoint. On a recent visit we had Cebollos al Carbon, Hongos Flameados, Tacos a la Palancha and a Lenten special that included fish tacos, shrimp and grilled vegetables. Great place to make a point to go to in SA and more than just good food. Service is good and there seems to be a lot of history at this location but it is on the pricier side for Mexican food. You should still try it if you get the chance.
I enjoyed the Enchiladas de Mole Poblano! Two chicken enchiladas with their homemade mole sauce. Fresh and delicious! My husband had the beef chile' relleno which was also very good. The service was average, but the food was over the top good!
