We were walking back from The Alamo to our hotel looking for a lunch place and spotted the Thai Lao Orchid. We were sure delighted by the menu, food and service.
We stopped by for supper after reading all the glowing reviews only to be super disappointed. We got there a little after 8 and ordered right away. We had an order of spring rolls which were very good but it was down hill after that. We had the crispy noodles and all that can be said about that is bland.... 更多
Oh, the Riverwalk has changed. I was so surprised to find that there were NO Asian restaurants there any longer. The only options (per the googles) seemed to be two places in the mall (um, NO) and perhaps one other in the area that closed at 3:00. Fortunately, I saw the listing for Thai Lao Orchid. The restaurant is small... 更多
Thai Lao Orchid offers better than average Thai Cuisine amongst the downtown scene of San Antonio. Steps away from the Alamo, riverwalk, and many historic buildings, this establishment serves more than adequate helpings of Tom Yum/Tom Kha soups, spring rolls, and many tasty thai dishes. My visit consisted of Shrimp Tom Yum, Tofu Clay Pot Delight (stir-fried rice w/ vegetables),... 更多
This authentic Thai spot is a few blocks away from the River Walk and well worth the stroll. We were recently sampling Thai restaurants in LA and can say this beat most of them. We had a giant lunch for 2 for around $18, including a sample of the ginger soup....wish I could have had more. Pad Thai, spring rolls...so... 更多
My daughter had pad sasiew and I had the bun combo and miso soup. The miso was great. The waitress asked us how spicy we wanted things, and they hit the mark. It was really fast as well and very reasonable. It's kind of a hole in the wall. My daughter is 16 and really likes ethnic food. Not sure... 更多
Thai cuisine is known for its balance of 5 fundamental taste senses: hot spicy, sour, sweet, salty and sometime bitter. The undertone of lemongrass is a must. Sadly, Thai Lao Orchid missed this balance. Presentation and flavors did not compare to Thailand or Thai cuisine in Tokyo. Staff was extremely friendly and cooks were very kind. Just disappointed in this... 更多
We saw some good reviews so decided to try this place. Big mistake. The Miso soup was so so. Mine was pretty flavorless. My entree of noodles, tofu, and veggies was passable--barely. Pretty bland. My friend's green curry dish was so over salted as to be inedible. We told the apparent owner who rudely told us that no one had... 更多
