We have always stopped at the Old Gaol but find that is now overpriced and the service has really dropped off.
Just stopped for coffee etc. Good place for watching the world go by. Waitress was very friendly abd service was excellent. Looked a cheap place to eat so would probably return.
Unlike some of the elaborate restaurants in Swellendam the Old Gaol serves straightforward hearty food. The chicken pie is a speciality and worth a try
I ate at this restaurant twice in the past 2 weeks and I don't know why I have not been before. My first visit was with a group of 35 tourists - everything was perfect and efficient. The second time there were only 3 of us and again, everything was great. The setting is lovely, the food is excellent -... 更多
The first afternoon in Swellendam was too hot and sticky for anything but hide in the shade under the trees. In a walk along the river we came across this strangely named restaurant. We only had coffee, which by the way was good, but the cakes and especially the melktert looked very homemade and yummy. It's a great building. Sadly no wifi!
In this adorable town is an adorable restaurant in an old converted manor house in a garden setting across from a gorgeous old church. Large beautiful patio for outdoor dining, nice playground in the large backyard for kids to play while adults have a leisurely drink/meal. Great menu, excellent food, drinks, coffees. Good for breakfast too!

So we ordered the only other thing on the menu....roosterbrood, which is basically a large warm roll. Our came with cheese and jam and cheese and tomato. That's it! No sauces, pestos. It was bland and dry and... 更多
My wife and I ordered pork belly on roosterkoek. It was fine, but cold. Service wasn't very quick, but not too bad. There is a big play area for children, which helped quite a bit to keep our little boy busy. Ok experience.
