Lunch. Staying in the nearby Hilton, I was looking for some traditional New Hampshire seafood. Stumbled upon the Oar House, on the water front, just a block from the hotel, while looking for a lunch spot. Two seating choices, a very busy and humming waterfront deck area, or a fabulously colonial history filled dinning room in the base of the... 更多
I've read some less than stellar reviews lately about the Oar House. We took a trip to Portsmouth, NH and because the restaurant has its own parking lot and was recommended by locals, we went. What a pleasant surprise! We were ushered into a cozy room with huge beamed ceilings and sat next to what used to be an underground... 更多
We had lunch at the outside deck which is crowded and noisy. .....to be expected on Memorial Day weekend. Service was good but waitstaff kept squeezing through the very small space between our table and the next. Our selections, lobster roll and lobster mac'n'cheese were tasty but the portions were small for the price charged which was quite high. This... 更多
Traditional upscale fish house upstairs. Excellent for business meetings and dates. Right smack in the middle of all the action this town has to offer. On the water but no views, which is too bad. Dont forget to hit downstairs for live music. Fun atmosphere and not nearly as stuffy upstairs. Perfect date night spot.
Took my father here one day when we visited Portsmouth and dined on the dock, right on the river. You can't beat the view! They actually have two docks and one side serves the fried food and pulled pork sandwiches etc...while the other side serves more expensive, non-fried stuff. I sat right up against the fence and could look over... 更多
We stopped here for brunch with teens, they struggled to find something they liked but enjoyed the individual pizzas, my eggs Benedict was very nice. Waitress was patient. Restaurant is dark during the day but would, I think, be nice in the evenings with candles and dinner.
The Oar House is an absolutely charming restaurant steeped in seaside ambiance. Right on the water and 2 steps from bustling downtown Portsmouth, the Oar House serves succulent seafood and perfectly grilled steaks. An eclectic menu has something to please everyone. A great place for any celebration - including just having a good day! Pleasant bar downstairs with a very... 更多
We went there with a group of 11 service was prompt food was good but not exceptional wine list was expensive but a little pricey. Overall a good dining experience and I would definitely go back the sea food was fresh and well prepared
I remember going to the Oar House in its early days in the 1970s & we have been several times in between. We had a very nice meal& a very enjoyable evening there tonight. We were in the downstairs area which is cozy and intimate with massive beams supporting the floor above in keeping with the buildings probable early use... 更多
I have eaten at the Oar House several times, in fact almost every time I go to Portsmouth. The fish is always good and properly cooked. My only thumbs down are the rolls. They could and should be much better. Service is great. It's a good place to eat outside in nice weather but if it's cold, the atmosphere inside... 更多
The decoration is great with the explanations on historical wvents which too place in the building. A must see. Food was ok, not too good, cannot recommend the lobster macaroni, very heavy. Good service
