While in Elko we asked at the hotel front desk for a place to eat. Tokio Ona was suggested. We were amazed, the food was excellent starting with chicken soup. Had wonderful flavor, like eating at home.
I ordered the pork chops here, and they were amazing. Also, the breakfast selections were fantastic. Both of us enjoyed desert there-- we had flan, which they pointed out was an in-house specialty. We got stranded in Elko due to car problems. And that was the closest restaurant to our hotel. Everyone in town raved about this place... Excellent food for great prices.... CRAP!!! We spent $50.00 on 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, jalapeño poppers and mozzarella sticks. The food was ok. Fries were greasy and cold!
As an introduction to basque food, we were not impressed. Bean soup and bread come automatically to the table. Best part of meal was the soup. My chicken marsala was unlike anything I have eaten before. This is a very expensive restaurant and the setting is mundane to say the least.
We may well have been the only out-if-towners in the place, and the place was full! Very friendly and prompt service. Both our breakfast entrees were cooked exactly as ordered and very good. The huevos rancheros was superb with chorizo sausage tucked under the eggs. Highly recommend!
The food was good and portions were large. No draft beers. Evidently a local's place. Very tasty lamb chops. The only draw-back is that the acoustics are terrible, decreasing the value of the experience. Several tables of people were talking very loudly. Sound absorbing materials are needed.
