If you don't like drinking beer in the outdoor biergarten on a summer night with live music, I don't know what to tell you. You can go here any night, but Friday nights in the summer with music are a lot of fun. The beer is not the cheapest, but there's plenty of it and you can find German beers... 更多
Great beer. Love the purple cabbage! Go with an open mind & try something new. Not absolute best food but, it's good. We have only sat in the bar area & have received good service. If you've never had authentic German beer they are helpful & will let taste before you decide. Check out the beer garden. From time to... 更多
We wanted to love this place...We found it on Pinterest while planning a business trip to Indy and wanted a fun late-night meal option after our conference. I can't speak to the biergarten, because it was winter when we visited and thus the biergarten was closed. We sat in the back "bar area" which is 21+. We did peruse the... 更多
We stopped for a mid afternoon late lunch, but missed their lunch menu, which stopped serving at 2pm. So we ordered off the bar menu and the food was good. Spicy mustard accompanies the complementary large pretzel - spicy is an understatement. The atmosphere in this old building is REALLY neat, and worth a trip at least to the bar... 更多
We gave this place another try, ordered the sausage plate and a steak. This is NOT TRUE German food!! The sausages were boiled, no seasonings, and although there were many of them, they just weren't good. The steak was fine, just fine. This place is highly overpriced. I just don't get the appeal, frankly.
The servings were large portions. We wanted veal but the restaurant used pork instead- disappointed. We have eaten a lot better German food. Our friend that was German was very disappointed with the taste. The restaurant has a lot of history and is nice- just feel the food is over rated if you are use to German Food.
Been here years before. 1890's building is still incredible. Genuine German ambiance and decor is one of the top 5 in the USA. Great selection of drafts, 16 oz glasses or the 32 ounce steins. Schnitzels, wursts, sauerbratens as well as fish, chicken and steak Yank style. I ordered kassler ripchen. No, not the old Orioles second basemen, a hearty... 更多
Wow! Walked in for lunch and was awestruck by the decor. Just like you'd envision a century old German restaurant would look like. Lunch was delicious...schnitzel & German potatoes were out of this world. Oh, that mustard has a bite! Would love to come back for the music and outside beer garden.
The food is excellent German fare. The vibe is very gilded age. Lots of leather and trophy heads. It's legit and that's why this works. The mustard is crazy good. Inhale when your eating it and you can feel you brain stem melting!
While we didn't eat here, we enjoyed our evening listening to two great bands. The only thing I didn't love was that the ladies rooms are right on the side of the bandstand, so it felt a bit odd...but I did get to talk to the first band's lead guitarist and tell him how much we enjoyed the show as... 更多
This was our families second time to visit The Rathskeller. It is always a great spot to visit when in Indianapolis. The building and decor is awesome. There is a great beer garden, but too cold to partake of it on this visit. The service is always top notch here! There is a great beer selection and there are a... 更多
Fourteen of us held a birthday dinner at the Rathskeller, and they did a fantastic job! It had been ten years or better since I had been there, and the Schnitzel was as good as I remembered-everything was. Service was excellent, which is hard to do with a party as large as ours, on a busy Saturday night no less.... 更多
The Rathskeller has such a rich history and so does its neighborhood. The restaurant food is a bit pricey, but it's completely worth the cost and on par for most German restaurants. They also have a fantastic adults-only outdoor concert venue with bar food and drinks. I would highly recommend visiting at any time of day!
This place drips atmosphere, so it's fun to go here just for the amazing building itself. Their beer is top notch, but this evening we were too late to order food. Our server managed to grab us the last pretzel and gave it to us free because it was broken. (I'm sure that's why it was still there.) We even... 更多
