Great place, karisik izgara and hunkar begendi was delicious. Service was very good. It was well decorated and kunefe was to die for. Hope to be back!
After a movie at the Criterion around the corner, we stopped in for what turned into a spectacularly tasty meal. We began with a mezzo plate. I continued with a lentil soup and a vegetable salad with crushed walnuts and and Efes beer...all sublime and spices (the beer was excellent, not spicy). The decor is Ottoman luxurious, and the place... 更多
While I'll admit the service at this restaurant is often kind of quirky, the food is always excellent. I've been making a research trip to New Haven about once a year for the last few years, and I always have a meal at this restaurant while in town. They have really nice Turkish food and very friendly staff. They also have belly dancer entertainment on Saturdays which is a lot of fun. I also love their decorations.
We came to New Heaven to drop our daughter in a summer camp. We really hoped to have a nice Turkish brunch. We check the opening hours and it stated that it opens at noon on Sunday. We arrived at 12:30 and there was no one there! Can you at least update your website??? Very disappointed :(
There was barely anyone in this place for dinner on a Friday. That should have been my hint; however, I had never been here and many people have told me that they liked the restaurant. My falafels were tasteless, overdone, and really flat and the hummus wasn't any better. I won't be trying this place again.
Cafe Istanbul serves flavorful, authentic Turkish cuisine in the heart of downtown New Haven. The Soguk Meze plate is an amazingly delicious vegetarian appetizer with hummus, babaganoush, a tomato, cucumber, pepper and walnut spread, amazingly light and flavorful stuffed grape leaves, a spinach puree and a carrot puree--served with delicious homemade bread. The cacik is rich and delicious. We had... 更多
