Restaurant has a good selection of sea food and fish, but the suggestion of the maitre on a Cod Fish was just terrible. The cod was served with a lot of skin and bones and too much sauce. Castañuela in Caracas is to meet people, have a drink. Before it was a place for selected people; n ow you can find mostly people from the government political party. No atmosphere anymore. Have not been here for several years... This was one of the "old" Spanish restaurants in Caracas. Service is pretty good and they have enough staff. The place is clean and restrooms are also quite clean!valet prking and well located in Las Mercedes District. Now food... Here is where things changed. Our empnada gallega was heated in a microwave! the arroz a la marinera is no longer as good. tocinillo continues to be delicious. looks like it is now the current new rich politicians place to gather, as it is tremendously expensive.
I ordered the seafood rice before leaving home to the restaurant, so arriving half an hour later and sit at the table, I just waited ten minutes to enjoy it. Upon arrival I ordered Galician octopus, bread with garlic and white wine sangria. Dessert cheese. Espresso. Execelente quality and quantity. Busy but friendly atmosphere. Acceptable prices.
First time at La Catanuela and like many such experiences it was a little awkward. The timing was off, Good Friday with every restaurant booked heavily, but we got in early - 6.00.
