The restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was friendly. The food was average, however it is very cheap so that balances it out.

Had lunch here on a rainy day, with only one other table in the restaurant occupied it was a quiet experience. The waiter (owner ?) was very friendly and spoke decent dutch, not evident in Brussels. Delicious lunch at a table in the sun. Superb salad Big Mama with scampi, scallops and chicken for my friends. I had delicious meatloaf with mustard sauce and mashed potatoes with veggies. Superdelicious moelleux (chocolate cake) for dessert. Very friendly service. After lunch we visited the beautiful Chagall exhibition. A perfect spring day in May.
Opposite the Jacques Brel museum, Big Mama serves good unpretentious Belgian food. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, the food is tasty, the service is good. Big Mama doesn't offer a spectacular culinary experience, but it doesn't pretend to.
The Belgian dish 'vol-au-vent' was really bad here. What they write here about the french fries is true, they are really inferior. And the rest of the dish was too, it was tasteless. I wanted to get away from this place as soon as possible.
