Spend some quality time in Dumfries with my mother, and sister. After shopping head for a bite to eat at The Cavens. Mother had her favourite Macaroni cheese, sister had her favourite of gammon steak. So than go for my usual, I went for the lamb Moroccan tangine. It was lovely, spicy but not to fiery the meat just dissolved... 更多
Fortunately I went at 5:30 pm on a Fri evening because before long it was busy. I haven't experienced service like this in over 10 years in the UK. And there was no pressure to get me out the door to make space for people waiting at the bar. I thought the salmon I chose was quality and value. Adequate... 更多
I enjoyed my meal and had Steak Pie. It was very nice. The restaurant was full when we arrived so we took a seat in the bar. Whilst we waited they took our food order meaning that we did not have long to wait at all when we were seated about 15 minutes later. As nice as the meal was... 更多
Despite having won the regional CAMRA best pub award for the last decade or so this doesn’t strike me as being a typical “real ale” bar - the style looks more like your favourite auntie’s living room. They do serve a good selection of real ales however with highly restrictive new legal limits on drink driving in Scotland I didn’t... 更多
Always busy in any night, probably best to pre-book (not available for smaller parties, certainly on a Saturday) A good menu selection of traditional bar style food at reasonable prices. The Criffel chicken is to be recommended as is the Macaroni Cheese, the excellent Haddock and Chips and on this occasion, the Steak Pie. Excellent selection of well maintained real... 更多
Wandering around Dumfries Easter Sunday decided to call in on the off chance I'd get a meal. Despite being very busy was found a table straight away, meal order taken within minutes and before my first pint of real ale consumed meal on the table. Adequate pub meal, well priced and tasty. Great selection of ales and excellent service, well... 更多
Table of 12 from the Steak through to burgers all enjoyed. Fine selection of ales, CAMRA award winning pub. Minor quibble, they ran out of onion rings so I and couple of others got bag ones, very busy so suspect they just ran out. Just note, they don't do kids if you are a Dumfries visitor.
Called in yesterday again as every time I visit Dumfries we eat here! I have never been disappointed at the quality of food and the service. Always plenty of attentive staff on! We also love the fact that young children aren't allowed! I know that's a bit cruel, but this place is great! Traditional food! Keep up the good work!... 更多
