We enjoyed the meal cooked in the earth and we saw them pulling the food out earlier in the day. It is very much like a crockpot meal with various meats, cabbage, potato and carrots. The food in general is more bland.
Furnas is the name of the place where you can make your own stew... on the ground! That's right. Being a volcanic island, São Miguel (Azores) has a lot of places where you can find volcanic activity at a hand's reach. And Furnas is where this activity is more present. So present that you can bury a cooking pan on... 更多
The place was completely full on Wednesday for lunch. Most had the cozido, but we saved that for another time. The waiters and locals were friendly, but food was served in huge portions with many potatoes and salad and was nothing special. The roast beef was in a strange sauce and the chicken skewers were bland except for salt. Fun... 更多
We ordered from the normal menu instead of most other reviewers. The food was average - a lot of meat but the fries and vegetables were so-so. Service was quick but, likely due to the place being very busy, without much attention. We had a seat outside and were happy as inside the noise of 100 people eating and talking... 更多
My date and I shared the traditional cozido, which was very tasty and was itself a very large amount of food. Wine, service, and dessert was great - a fun experience! Many locals were also eating there. A great way to try a cozido.
I tried my luck in there without a booking and it was a great success. Although they were full as always, they managed to get us a table in the other side of the street, in the bus terminal, where they have a little snack bar and some tables. The lava stone cooked cozido is not only cheap for the... 更多
At everyone's recommendation we tried Tony's for lunch. If they're full on the first floor, go upstairs and ask again because they have more room and a balcony! You go here to try the volcanic-cooked food. The food itself (chicken, pork, beef, sausage) was a little bland and not to my taste but I'd recommend trying it while in Furnas.
We had lunch here after visiting the Caldeiras on a geology trip. We saw our lunch being cooked in the ground before eating it back at the restaurant!
We came here before going to the baths late in the evening and had a reservation. Definately make a reservation unless you come late. Like after 9:30 pm. Huge portions of food, so come hungry. The stew is great. When it says it feeds two people, it really can feed three and they will tell you this. Waiter was very... 更多
