We travelled here from Dashoguz, not too long a journey on a good road. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and well deserves that appellation. In the middle ages this site used to be known as Gurganj and was the capital of Central Asia after Merv fell. I'll go over the various monuments separately but in summary there is... 更多
Although this is one of the lesser heralded ancient cities in Central Asia, we found the area absolutely fascinating. The mosques and attendant buildings are very well-preserved. It consists of several interesting places - a mausoleum, medressa, minaret and some other shrines. It's quite extensive, so prepare to do some walking. It was quite windy in March, warm clothing is highly recommended.
