We went for a walk up to Coldstones Cut to burn off some Christmas calories. It's not too long a walk from the car park and the pathway has been improved to make access easier and less muddy. They've also put in some steps. Once you are there you can enjoy tremendous views over the Yorkshire countryside, with informative panels...
A short steep walk from the roadside car park brings you to a magnificent viewing point made of natural stone. On a good day you can see for miles. It is also the site of a working quarry. We found it interesting watching the heavy lorries arriving and departing.
After a heavy snow fall we decided to give it a try the following day, great place for a short up hill walk, only comment is they have tarmacked near to the end of it and in winter with snow it would have been far better leaving it to be a loose stoned path. What is not to like. Amazing Yorkshire scenery, an old smelting mill to read about our rich industrial heritage, a short but bracing walk to the top of the hill and a cool modern sculpture to get lost in and climb about on ... with views of a working quarry. For free. (There's even that Yorkshire sensibility!)
We popped in to Coldstone Cut when passing Toft gate line kiln. It's not too well known but boy is it a special modern Sculpture (Yorkshire's Largest)
Me and my wife popped in on a day off. It was foggy, wet and windy but the did not ruin the visit.Quite the opposite.
Hike up the hill and see the bike ....
