once you have read A. Paasillinas book "Auta armias" you have to visit this very unique church. impressive wooden construction for 3.000 People in a small village. During summertime there are concerts, Chorus Festivals worthwile to see and to listen to. Wonderful area around and only a few miles from Savonlinna. go and see it, my simple advice!
Why do you build the world's largest wooden church, and Finland's largest over all, in a small country town? Probably because you can! It's an impressive building and I'm very glad we came here, though it's a bit surreal.

I don't go to church, or even believe in god for that matter but I love visiting beautiful churches and this one is gobsmacking...because it is MASSIVE and all wooden. The Church was closed the day we visited. It is an amazing size - they say it is the largest wooden church in the world. The grounds around the church are absolutely beautiful.
Not like the Cathedral in Milan, but large wooden construction. Located in a small town Kerimaki. Has nice view to lake from bell tower.
