We spent a weekend tent camping at this park. It was a fairly clean and organized park, with some shady sites, though none that seemed very private. It would have been a more satisfactory experience had it not been for the couple next to us partying all night. Friends of theirs would drive in late at night and my husband,... 更多
I hadn't heard of this place before searching for things to do around Long Point, and am glad I stopped by! Being a history buff, I loved seeing period buildings and other artefacts. In addition to the mill are a two-story home, two smaller homes, an old red brick school, and several more farm buildings. The small on-site museum also... 更多
Built in the last years of the 18th Century, Backus Mill is unique to Western Ontario. It still has functioning machinery, all powered by a water-wheel, exactly as it was and worked for 150 years! The Mill Pond is stocked with trout for youngsters to catch. The park features an authentic 1850 style country estate house, barn, an old fashioned... 更多
Long point beach is just south down the road, backus woods conservation just to the north, and there are plenty of things to do right on the campsite for kids and anyone into birding, great birding right on the campsite.
This is a lovely park for walking, camping etc. The history of the area is interpreted in the museum. In the autumn they do a re-enactment that brings many tourists to the area. A great place to visit when everyone gets tired of the beach.
We spent one summer camping here. The landscaping is nice. But ,most of the attractions are no longer open. The pool is not open long enough for swimming. And the camping grounds are not very good. Not a place for kids they are bored
We enjoyed the old buildings available foe viewing. At the time we were there there were many people in period dress. They were displaying furs that would be traded for various goods such as weapons, cooking utensils and blankets. The people reenacting this time in history were living in tents and wore period costumes. They were very knowledgeable about the... 更多
We made a trip to Backus while we were camping at Long Point. Our family (2 adults, 3 kids under 8) all had a blast and said we were going to come back next year and camp on the conservation. There was plenty of things to do and see, everything was open, available and the kids could get up and... 更多
Backus has been a wonderful area to explore the grounds, we had our area Scout Camp there this year for 3 days and 2 nights, great area for the youth to run around and have fun and to play games. We had a great time there.
There is always something going on at Backus. Until recently I haven't been to Backus in well over 10 years. It's never a disappointment, such a cool place to visit. Just walking around looking at the old buildings, seeing the people dressed in the correct time era clothing, taking part in the heritage activities it's fun for everyone of all... 更多
