Was there during winter. The beach was really nice, fine sand and cooling to the feet (winter temp 16C). Not many swimmers or surfers. Walking along the beach is really refreshing and listening to the sound of the ocean waves splashing towards the shore...swash...swish..swash.
On the edge of cyclone Winston, the waves were high and frothy, with strong winds, but the beach was very clean and beautiful. Life guards were on duty mid week, between the flags. The Tugun Surf Club is in a top spot right on the esplanade and the meals and view were fabulous.
Tugun beach is a beautiful beach in a quiet area. I was here in October so not sure if it's busier throughout the year? The water and sand are beautiful but the only downside is the water is a bit rough so not ideal if you have young children with you.
If you are looking for 'time out' from the hustle and bustle of 'Life' then this is a place worth considering. It's very close to the Coolangatta airport where you can easily hire a car or if you aren't planning to go far from the beach then simply catch a taxi.
