We pass Tongariro Alpine Crossing in really bad weather, but it war amazing experience. Mount Ngauruhoe, emerald lakes, the Red Cater - what's more?
Mount Ngauruhoe is an active volcano made from layers of lava - I guess this was the main reason we decided not to hike it. The location of the mount is superior though. Tongariro National Park offers breathtaking views and perfect snaps opportunity. If you're a fan of Lord of the Rings, this place is a must-visit. Also there are... 更多
no need for ski passes if your on a budget just stick to the free areas ( there are a lot) there is a blue lake near the car park that we happened upon my mistake . look out for it . its worth the hassle :)

You can hike in from the car park if you don't want to do the Alpine Crossing. It is a slog and scramble and watch for rocks from trampers above you.
