You can hike in from the car park if you don't want to do the Alpine Crossing. It is a slog and scramble and watch for rocks from trampers above you.
Loved the Tongariro Crossing, but it is very touristy. Take the detour to Mount Ngauruhoe to enjoy even better views all over the North Island of New Zealand. Have a look into the crater and enjoy your lunch up top. The decent is quite challenging, as you just walk on gravel and there are constantly rocks falling from the top.... 更多
Did my walk up to Soda Spring and really enjoyed the scene along my walk... This is part of Tongariro Alpine Crossing Route also and visitor is allowed to do the walk/crossing without guide during summer. JUST Get your camera ready to capture all the stunning views there!

Unfortunately the fog rolled in within minutes of us arriving to National Park, had to cancel our flight over the three mountains, what a shame, but staff explained about the numerous cameras they have, so would have been unsafe.
