Trying to see as much of The Coromandel as possible the 309 is a great route. Nice to have to slow down a bit and enjoy the rainforest. Highlight was the Kauri Grove - worth taking longer than suggested time - great views of these awesome trees.
This was the road that we took while moving from Whitianga to Coromandel. The road is graveled in patches so slows you down a bit. Some speciality shops, Kauri Reserve and a waterfall may be the right incentives for you to take this road. If in hurry, please skip this..
A secondary road, but in very good conditions. It takes you to a few attractions, parks and waterfalls. Waterfall swims, little tracks to see giant Kauri trees - know to live up to 4000 years - a theme park based on water, it is fun for kids and big kids and even bigger kids.
