The centre is well set and the displays are very informative. You could spend a whole afternoon here. This is a must for history buffs. If you want to know anything about the history of this area then this small but very comprehensive museum IS A MUST SEE) Also has a great reference library with lots of local family history. Run totally by volunteers with a gold coin donation (SHOULD BE MORE!!!). Well done.
The Channel Heritage Centre is located at the southern end of Margate, don't miss the turn to enter on the left hand side. Entry is free however a gold coin donation is welcome and well worth it. If you love local history, you'll love this place, entry is by donation (but be sure to give generously, they rely on this for upkeep) It gives an extensive timeline of settlement in the south, everything from the indigenous history, to the miniing history and there is a really good collection of local artifacts. This Museum is run by dedicated volunteers and they do an excellent job. There is a cafe as well as the Museum which has some amazing stuff which school groups would enjoy. A very good way to learn about local history. As well they have Art displays every month of local Artist's work. Well worth a visit for all ages!

As a Tour Operator I bring quite a few groups here and plan to allow more time in the future as the Guests I have had there, thoroughly enjoyed their experience and so much to take in. It really is a gem of the Huon Trail. A must see if time allows!

We discovered this while exploring. They was a vintage car club meet out the front that got our attention so we stopped. Gold coin donation entry. The displays were logically laid out, informative and comprehensive. The historical camera display was a bonus. The volunteer staff were enthusiastic and friendly. Highly recommended for those interested.
