Set aside about 90 minutes to take the full walk around this site. Some awesome things to see and one word of warning. The wind can gust quickly without warning. From afar, this place looks like a bizarre conglomerate of shades of white, gray, and yellow. Up close, you can see various fumaroles and mud pots. You can see plumes of smoke rising into the distance. And light blue pools. I am not sure how to describe it. Would it make sense if I said fairytale wasteland? The milky blue pools and the color transition is one of a kind. Go, see it yourself because no words can give you the idea of what to expect.
Surrounded by rising steam and an unparalleled landscape, the boardwalk takes you on an effortless walk around the basin. Though the colours weren't brilliant compared to the springs around the park, it was a distinct palette We were there later on, which made for a quiet walk without the crowds.
...but the kid talked me in to it, and it is amazing. He still talks about the steam vent that sounds like a constant jet engine, and I watched the video I shot - and that's exactly what it sounds like. This is the most "moonlike" landscape in YNP, we thought!
