We were told in several reviews and planning articles his was the best to see bears and wolves. Even our Eco tour guide told us to come here. So we set off from our lodging at 04:45 for the journey to Slough Creek. We saw a Black Bear on the roadside whilst on the way so we were buzzing when... 更多
A great place to put our RV for several nights to see the wolf pups, grizzlies and drive only a few miles to see 1000's of grizzlies with their babies! No hook ups and it does not open until May 15th. There is a beautiful creek running through the park!
Bring a high quality spotting scope and show up by about 7am. You can hire a guide (worth it... try Wolftracker out of Gardiner MT) or you can rent a scope. You will see group's of folks gathered on hilltops looking north toward the ridge. Really fun to watch the wolves, see the cubs rolling on each other, and we... 更多
But so very nice. Hiking as a family, we only made it to the upper meadows where bugling elk were enjoyed and a grizzly was seen from a safe distance. Our group of 38 teens helped build parking bumpers and thoroughly enjoyed the creek running by the parking lot and the beautiful views. On the road to Slough Creek we stopped and saw 10 wolves from one of the pack running up the hillside. This time of year was definitely cold but amazing because almost no one else was in... 更多
From the books we read, we believed the climb was a short one, and maybe for some it is, but to us it felt like we never quit going up! We happened to be there on the hottest week of the year (temps in the 90s), so that probably made it harder as well. We didn't get to the meadow... 更多
This was one of our favorite hikes in Yellowstone. Starting at 8:15 a.m., we were pretty much all by ourselves (we do carry bear spray), and enjoyed the tranquillity. This trail offers beautiful views, bison in the meadows, and mountains at the horizon. After the initial uphill climb of 400' in one mile, the trail is quite flat for the... 更多
Slough creek is near the entrance to the Lamar canyon, and has in the past often been a good place to view wolves. Bison and pronghorn as well as coyote are also often seen here. You can also often get cell phone service.
